The Bird
A distant figure walks slowly across a foggy & windy beach, carrying a large wooden beam.
With every step sinking in sand he feels his fatigue, yet he keeps walking.
Later, while resting on his beam he sees a black bird land nearby, which starts walking towards him. Dark beady eyes look at him intently. The bird stops.
"Hello bird" says the man.
The bird looks at him silently.
"I have nothing to give you" sighs the man.
The bird stares and finally says in a deep voice "Untrue".
The man shows the bird the sand in his pockets.
The bird pecks at the beam.
"You want this? It's mine to carry, and besides - much too heavy for a bird".
"Who told you it was yours to carry?".
The man thought about this for a long while.
"I don't know".
The bird sat on the beam alongside the man, and a long while passed without any of them uttering a word.
Suddenly the man stood up, feeling lighter than ever, thanked the bird and disappeared over a nearby dune.
The bird sat there for a while longer, then spread it's wings and flew away with the beam.
